Music has been the antidote to singer-songwriter Akash Vincent’s aching heart. For this artiste, who is performing at The Piano Man Jazz Club, he has always turned to songs to cope with emotions. So much so that some of them have became his best friends. “My aim with my music is to be that for someone else,” he says.
On July 31, he’ll be performing solo, singing and playing the guitar. Soul music is going to be the flavour of the evening. Going forward, he hopes to perform more with his full band, with the trumpet, saxophone, keyboard, bass and drums backing him.
Vincent is working on the release of his second EP titled Polaris. “Three songs on the EP titled, Who I Am, Free and Circles give me a sense of direction. They remind me to become a better performer, to love without the fear of losing people and to never do wrong by others no matter what their conduct,” he says.
A big hiccup from the time of recording the EP was to find a trumpet player. His budget constraints only made the search more difficult. One step away from giving in to a synthesised trumpet, before Vincent found an Italian trumpet player in Noida. “Apart from that challenge, musicians are still trying to figure out ways to free themselves of the stress associated with gig payments,” he says.
On the sunnier side of things, he believes that for music that hasn’t yet been explored in India, there is a lot of room to explore. “Music that has a good scope of getting recognition in India may get lost in a sea of similar sounds elsewhere,” he says. A few years ago he couldn’t have imagined a place like The Piano Man Jazz Club in Delhi hosting live music every day.
Despite Vincent’s public interface, he is a private person often retreats into his private bubble of intimate musings. “It scary to talk about my personal life but it’s worth it if it speaks to even one person, “he says.
