Girl pedals from J&K to Kanyakumari to create awareness on gender equality

MYSURU:A city-based 27-year-old girl gave up her high paying job and cycled from Kashmir to Kanyakumari to create awareness on gender equality in the country.Shruthi Shivashankara Murthy, a software engineer who also worked as financial consultant, gave up her job and completed the cycling expedition of 4,200 km in 45 days recently.
Presently she is working with an NGO -- Step Out for a Gender-Neutral and is also a consultant for adolescent education. Sharing her experience, Shruthi said it is an amazing experience to travel on bicycle in a country like India, every 100 km one can see change in tradition, culture and language.
En route, Shruthi traversed through Punjab, Haryana, Rajasthan, Maharashtra, Kerala and other states.
“No one was aware of my mother tongue, caste or religion and every one welcomed me in a traditional manner. I didn’t have any bad experience during my journey. My friends and family members supported me a lot to complete the expedition,” she said.Her father TC Shivashankara Murthy was former vice-chancellor of Mangalore University.
